What’s in the box?

Inside the box, they include the watch with a silicon style band, the charging dock and the user manual. You can buy the small band (125-165mm) or large band (158-205mm) edition depending on of your wrist size. The charging dock uses POGO pins to charge wirelessly the band 200 mAh battery in about 1 hour and last around 2-3 days when exercising regularly. You can activate the power saving mode to save battery life and last longer between charges. Still, for a high-end activity tracker, the battery life should be better if we compare it with other brands and if you consider to use this device daily. If you are using the GPS, it will drain your battery faster too.

Samsung is also selling a bundle including the Gear IconX wireless ear-buds since it has Bluetooth connectivity built-in to listen to music. You can also find different type of bundles from different companies in the Amazon’s website that can also include an extra year of warranty. You can see an example if you click here.

Design

The wearable comes with a 1.5 inch Super AMOLED curved touchscreen that looks pretty awesome and the colors are vibrant. You got two control buttons (Back and Power/Home) on the right side that let you control your watch during a workout or to navigate in the screen menus. Two colors are available for this smartwatch: Black or Red/Black.

Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro claspThe rubber diamond style strap feels great and have been updated with a standard strap clasp instead of the latch strap that came with the older model. It is a small change but it fixes the issue that users had with the lap strap opening by itself (on the previous model). The strap is easily replaceable if you want to customize it.

The new model is available now water resistant up to 5 ATM (50 meters in the pool), so you can wear it while taking a shower, on a rainy day while running or when swimming since it can track your stroke type to counting laps.

Fitness Features

This device has all the bells and whistles speaking fitness features. The heart rate sensor is pretty accurate for a wrist-based wearable but doesn’t beats a heart rate monitor strap. Like most of the Fitbit models, this band auto-detect the exercise that you are doing and auto-log the activity for post-workout analysis. So you don’t need to manually activate your band by pressing a button.

Watch Features

Auto-tracking is not perfect since some exercises (by example, boxing) would be recorded as ”other workout”. Still, the automatic reconition exercise list is vast and will be fine for most of the people.

The built-in GPS uses GPS, Glonass and Beidou satellites for a quicker and more reliable positioning before starting your exercise like cycling or running. The accelerometer and barometer allows the band to track the step climbed and speed. Below, you will see the complete list of features if you need them.

Compatibility and Apps

This is where Samsung has step up from its last predecessor and competition: You have available now access to more than 3000 apps and watch faces to customize your watch the way you want it.

Fitness apps like MapMyRun (plan and track routes), SpeedoGo (swimming), UA Record (activity, sleep and workout stats) and Endomondo (Fitness community) can be installed to take out the best out of the watch.

Customization using Samsung Gear App

The Tizen OS is available now compatible with iOS and Android. A great plus for Apple users even if the list of apps is less than for the Android users. Once you connect the watch to your phone and receive/send text messages, accept/deny calls, see social feeds.

With his 4GB of storage, you can download music to your watch using Spotify offline or another app. You can also connect online to Spotify using the built-in Wi-Fi and stream the music via Bluetooth using wireless headphones or a speaker.
